Breast Uplift
The breast uplift, also known as "mastopexy" is a procedure that reshapes the breast to give a perter, uplifted profile.
The procedure is ideal for:
- Women whose breasts appear "saggy" or pendulous
- Those who find their breast shape altered after pregnancy, breast feeding or weight loss
- Women whose breasts have lost tone as a result of relaxation of the ligaments - perhaps the nipples pointing downwards
If the actual size or volume of the breast is still satisfactory, then a breast uplift can provide the shape required.
For some women, they may also require additional volume in the breast to "fill it out". In this case a breast uplift can be combined with a breast augmentation. While reshaping the breast, the surgeon will also add in a suitably sized implant to add volume and size to the breasts.
Patient Stories
When you are considering cosmetic surgery, it's really helpful and interesting to see what results other patients have had.
Mum of 2 Audrey Green, pictured above, lost 7 stone with a gastric band, but didn't like the effects of weight loss on her breasts. She chose a breast uplift and looks fantastic as you can see.
If you come for a consultation, many of our staff have had surgery and can talk about their own experiences first hand.
About the Breast Uplift Procedure
In order to provide a perter profile for your breasts, the surgeon essentially has to remove a section of loose skin from beneath the breast, as shown in this diagram. This tightens the profile of the breasts and lifts them up.

Your surgeon will be able to demonstrate how this would work by gently pinching together the skin underneath each breast to push the breast tissue up and give you an idea how a breast uplift will work for you.
A breast uplift is a surgical procedure carried out under general anaesthetic. We take every aspect of your care very seriously and will provide you with a Patient Information Booklet outlining the risks of surgery as well as what to expect from your recovery.
Your Consultation
Deciding on any form of cosmetic surgery is a big decision and you'll need to know you're in safe hands and be confident in your choice.
A good surgeon will look at your medical history, listen very carefully to your requirements and give you honest, expert advice on which form of breast surgery is most suitable for you.
Your surgeon will to tell you which form of breast surgery is most suitable for you and will help you understand the risks and benefits of any suitable options.
A mastopexy, or breast lift is designed to reshape your breast to give a "perter", more youthful profile. Depending on your physique and how large a breast size you'd like to achieve, you may also consider breast augmentation instead or as well as an uplift. Implants simply add volume to the breasts to make them larger.
Your surgeon will also advise on what to expect at the hospital, explaining the procedure in detail and outlining the recovery/healing process as well as aftercare.
We take the consultation stage very seriously at The Hospital Group and provide this service free and without any further obligation, so that you can be fully informed about your cosmetic surgery options.
Future Pregnancies
If you are planning more children in the future then you should be aware that the effects of pregnancy may stretch the breasts again. Also, unlike the breast augmentation procedure, during a breast uplift the Surgeon will very often have to cut the milk ducts while the breasts are being repositioned. If this happens, you will be unable to breastfeed in the future. Do discuss any plans for children with your surgeon if you are considering a mastopexy.
Post-Operative Healing
Your surgeon will advise on the most appropriate garments to wear after surgery and during the first few weeks of healing.
Many surgeons recommend post-operative bras in order to provide compression and support after surgery. These are available from our clinics or in our online shop.
Do ask your surgeon or Patient Care Coordinator, as different procedures and surgeons will have different advice.
The scar from surgery will take time to fade fully - up to a year in some cases. Compared to a breast augmentation, the breast uplift scar will be larger, running from the nipple to the crease under the breast in an inverted "T" shape where the loose/excess skin has been removed. The scar for a standard mastopexy is often placed around the nipple, from the nipple to the natural crease under the breast and then along the crease of the breast. Various methods may use different scars. All surgery requires a scar and all scars take time to soften and fade. You will not see the final appearance of your scar until up to a year after surgery. The scar is usually red and raised for the first month or two after your operation. However, it will fade over time and be hidden by normal clothing.
The Hospital Group has developed exclusive Tamanu Balm to help with the healing of scars after surgery. Tamanu Balm contains a variety of exclusively selected natural ingredients which possess a unique capacity to promote the formation of new tissue, therefore accelerating wound healing and the growth of healthy skin. The balm is also moisturizing to help smooth and soften the skin as well as reduce the visible appearance of scars. This product is available in our clinics or from the online shop.
