Cosmetic Surgery After Weight Loss

mastopexyOur patients lose stones of weight and are healthier, happier and slimmer as a result.

However, for many, the weight loss does cause a subsequent problem.  After carrying excess weight for a number of years, the skin becomes stretched and when the weight goes, the skin doesn't always "snap back".

The Hospital Group are leaders in weight loss surgery and help thousands of patients to lose weight, so we understand the secondary problem of excess skin.  However, we also have nearly 30 years experience in cosmetic surgery so our team is uniquely qualified to help.

Cosmetic surgery is ideal for:

  • Bringing definition to your new slim body
  • Patients whose flabby skin does not respond to exercise or creams
  • Patients with saggy, empty looking breasts
  • Loose tummy bulges, that in some cases need to be "tucked in" to jeans
  • Excess body skin - e.g. torso, arms or thighs

Patient Stories

When you are considering cosmetic surgery, it's really helpful and interesting to see what results other patients have had.

  • Mum of 2 Audrey Green, pictured above, lost 7 stone with a gastric band, but didn't like the effects of weight loss on her breasts.  She chose a breast uplift and looks fantastic as you can see.  The procedure brought definition back to her breasts and she now boasts an enviable figure
  • Sally Price, went from a size 24 to a slim size 10 through weight loss surgery, but loose skin on her face and neck was prematurely ageing.  She chose a mini facelift with neck lift and lower blepharoplasty (eye bag removal) to rejuvenate her appearance. You can see Sally's facelift story and video here

Common Procedures After Weight Loss

The most common procedures are:

  • Breast uplift - removing excess skin from each breast to lift the bustline, giving a more youthful appearance.  In some cases, this can be combined with an implant where volume to be restored (i.e. )
  • Tummy tuck - removing surplus skin and fat deposits in the abdomen
  • Body lift - for larger areas of excess skin, a tailor-made body lift would be prescribed, which may use a combination of techniques to achieve the right result.  This is a bespoke area as everyone's needs are different
  • Thigh lift - reshaping the upper leg, concealing the scar on the inner thigh
  • Buttock lift - to provide definition to the patient's bottom
  • Arm lift - removing excess or flabby skin left under the arm

Cosmetic surgery after weight loss is not restricted to the body.  Loss of weight around the face and neck can be prematurely ageing.

  • Face lift - tightening of facial skin to rejuvenate the apperance
  • Neck lift, brow lift, eye bag removal or eye lift surgery may also be considered to tackle those specific areas.  As with body lifting, facial rejuvenation surgery can be quite a bespoke area so your surgeon will recommend the best procedure or combination for your needs

The Hospital Group offers the full range of cosmetic surgery procedures.  We’ve carried out many “body makeovers” after significant weight loss and understand the requirements very well, so you are in safe hands.

Your Consultation

This is an area where everyone's requirements will be different, so the first step is to have a consultation with a good Cosmetic Surgeon.

They will look at your medical history and examine your body carefully, assessing skintone, fat and weight lost; before giving their professional advice on which form of cosmetic surgery is most suitable for you.

Your surgeon will also advise on what to expect at the hospital, explaining the procedure in detail and outlining the recovery/healing process as well as aftercare.  Body procedures such as the arm lift or tummy tuck tend to require a couple of nights hospital stay.  Breast procedures are normally more straightforward and you can expect to return home the next day.

We take the consultation stage very seriously at The Hospital Group and provide cosmetic surgery consultations free and without any further obligation, so that you can be fully informed about your cosmetic surgery options.
