IPL Laser Vein and Vascular Treatment

IPL laser technology offers a range of treatments to tackle vascular problems such as:

  • Thread veins
  • Red flushing
  • Broken veins
  • Spider veins
  • Rosacea
  • Port wine stains
  • Leg veins (up to 3mm diameter, not varicose veins)
  • Haemangioma

The treatment is suitable for

  • Face
  • Arms and legs
  • Body
  • Men and women

Whether they run in the family, or are caused by smoking, alcohol or hormone changes; traditionally these conditions can be very difficult to get rid of.  However, IPL laser treatment offers a safe and very successful option for reducing and removing such vascular problems.

Visible results can be achieved in just one single laser vein treatment for smaller areas and haemangioma.  For larger areas or more persistent issues such as port-wine stain, a course of 2-3 may be advised for the full effect, depending on your requirements.

IPL Laser Treatment

These diagrams show a cross-section of the skin with blood vessels lying near the surface so that they show through.  IPL laser treatment causes the problem vessels to disappear.

IPL releases short and precisely controlled pulses of filtered light, which heat and destroy vessels which are too near the skin's surface.  Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy is delivered, but it is generally a short and manageable discomfort and does not normally require any painkillers or local anaesthetic.

Following treatment, the vessels quickly clear and are re-absorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the original lesion.

c) The vessel is destroyed and quickly clears

In addition, the IPL laser also heats up collagen fibres, which encourages them to rebuild and support the blood vessels, thereby preventing or delaying the development of more thread veins.

Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment, although final results may not be apparent for several months after collagen re-growth.

Most patients report few if any side effects.

Any reddening and swelling of the skin will be localised and normally lasts for less than 24 hours.  Some temporary bruising may occur.

With larger veins, a tan or brownish pigment may appear for a period following treatment.

Patients who have significant leg vein treatments may be advised to wear support hose for a short period of time.

Most patients can resume most normal activities immediately.

Vigorous activities and strenuous exercise should be avoided for the first 24 hours after treatment.

The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun.

Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear, but these tend to be much less than the original problem.  If necessary, they can also be removed with laser vein treatment.
