The Hospital Group's Managed Weight Loss Clinics offer a non-surgical weight loss programme with high-level support from a team of weight loss medical experts.

Weight Loss Management Clinics are suitable for:

  • People with BMI between 25 and 30 - check your BMI on our BMI calculator
  • Patients with weight-related medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, knee osteoarthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, centralisation of body fat

Weight loss is not easy and we understand the challenges you face with any diet or lifestyle change.  It takes time for your body to adjust and takes perseverence to continue.

However, with our clinics, we provide the necessary support and advice to help you succeed and change your body-shape and eating patterns for life.  Everyone is different, so you will have an individually tailored treatment plan.

Your team of expert support includes a Dietitian, Doctor and Nurse and the programme includes a combination of nutritional counselling, behaviour modification and education plus, plus prescription medication where required under close medical supervision.

Currently this service is available in our Irish clinics in Galway, Cork, Belfast and Dublin.

Weight Loss Clinic Programme

The medical team at The Hospital Group will assess the needs of the patient on an individual case-by-case and work with you get the most out of your weight loss plan.  The programme starts with a medical and nutritional assessment and thereafter it's adjusted to your own very unique needs.

A sample weight loss clinic programme is set out below as an example:

Week 1: Medical Assessment & Dietitian Appointment

  • Medical History
  • BMI Calculation
    • Weight history
    • Waist and height measurement
    • Blood pressure
  • Dietitian appointment
    • Dieting history
    • Physical activity
    • Food & activity diary

Week 2: General Practitioner Appointment

  • Initial appointment with GP to discuss medical history and dietitian appointment
    • Discussion of weight management plan
    • Prescription and medication
    • Set realistic target for weight reduction
    • Support and advice

Week 3: Review with Nurse

  • Weight recorded
  • Measurements taken
  • Blood pressure
  • Discuss food and activity diary
  • Support and advice

Week 6: Review with General Practitioner

  • GP will assess weight loss in the previous four weeks
    • Review medication
  • Further dietitian appointment arranged (if necessary)

Week 8: Reviewed by Nurse and Dietitian

  • Medical progress review
    • Weight recorded
    • Measurements taken
    • Blood Pressure recorded
  • Dietitian review
    • Discuss food and activity diary
    • General support and advice offered

Week 12: Review with General Practitioner

  • GP will assess weight loss in the previous six weeks
  • Programme Reviewed
  • Begin another course of treatment or discharge
