Face Lift

face_liftThe facelift, also known as "rhytidoplasty" is a procedure which rejuvenates the face to turn back the signs of ageing.

This procedure is ideal for:

  • People with a general "saggy" appearance to the face and neck
  • Wrinkles, deep lines, loose skin and/or jowls around the cheek/neck area
  • Both women and men

Everyone's physiology and requirements are different, so a face lift is bespoke to the individual.

Patient Stories

When you are considering cosmetic surgery, it's really helpful and interesting to see what results other patients have had.

  • Sally Price, pictured here, had gone from a size 24 to a slim size 10 through weight loss surgery, but loose skin on her face and neck was prematurely ageing.
  • She chose a mini facelift with neck lift and lower blepharoplasty (eye bag removal) to rejuvenate her appearance.  The result was natural and beautiful. You can see Sally's facelift story and video here

If you come for a consultation, many of our staff have had surgery and can talk about their own experiences first hand.  You'll also be able to see more patient photos like these to see what's possible for you.

About the Face Lift Procedure

facelift-before

STEP 1

The Surgeon starts by making incisions, which normally begin above the hairline at the temples, follow the natural line in front of the ear, curve behind the earlobe into the crease behind the ear and into or along the lower scalp.

STEP 2

As required, facial, neck tissue and muscle will be separated, fat may be trimmed or suctioned and underlying muscle and deep tissues may be tightened.

STEP 3

The excess skin is pulled up and back, trimmed and sutured into position.  Most of the scars will be hidden within your hair and in the normal creases of your skin.

Your Consultation

Your free consultation is a good opportunity to discuss facial rejuvenation surgery with a surgeon.  They understand the very bespoke nature of this surgery and can give honest recommendations on what you are trying to achieve.

Your surgeon will look at your medical history, listen very carefully to your requirements and give you honest, expert advice on what form of face lift surgery is right for you.  We offer both:

  • Full face lift
  • Mini face lift

Depending on your requirements, you may be advised to have alternative procedures or a combination of procedures.  Other procedures that may be considered instead of or as well as a face lift include:

Your Surgeon will advise on the benefits as well as the risks of undertaking facial surgery and will outline what to expect at the hospital, explaining the procedure in detail and the recovery/healing process as well as aftercare.

We take the consultation stage very seriously at The Hospital Group and provide this service free and without any further obligation, so that you can be fully informed about your cosmetic surgery options.

Post-Operative Healing

Eveyone is different, but you should prepare for some early pain, discomfort, swelling and bruising after surgery.  It is major surgery and there will be a recovery stage.

Your surgeon will advise on the most appropriate aftercare during the first few weeks of healing. The initial bruising should last 7-10 days so most people plan to have some time at home before returning to work or normal activities.

The scar from surgery will take time to fade fully - up to a year in some cases.  However, it will normally be hidden by the hairline so after the initial bruising has gone, it should be undetectable to anyone but you.

The Hospital Group has developed exclusive Tamanu Balm to help with the healing of scars after surgery.  Tamanu Balm contains a variety of exclusively selected natural ingredients which possess a unique capacity to promote the formation of new tissue, therefore accelerating wound healing and the growth of healthy skin. The balm is also moisturizing to help smooth and soften the skin as well as reduce the visible appearance of scars.  This product is available in our clinics or from the online shop.

During your medical consultation your surgeon will point out that the skin will continue to age. It is important that you understand that the ageing process will not stop after a facelift.  However, non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment such as Fillers can be combined with a facelift for an improved overall result.
