Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid removal surgery has become increasingly popular over recent years, offering surgical solution to drooping, heavy eyelids which can be ageing. The procedure, also known as "upper blepharoplasty" removes excess skin above the eyes to rejuvenate and refresh the face .
This procedure is ideal for:
- People with heavy, droopy eye lids, which make a person look sad, tired and older than they really are
- Deep wrinkles around the eyes
- Both women and men
Patient Stories
When you are considering cosmetic surgery, it's really helpful and interesting to see what results other patients have had.
- Vickie Kemp was fed up of looking tired all the time - she felt fine, but looked older than she felt. She chose to have upper and lower blepharoplasty together (eye lid and eye bag surgery) to rejuvenate her appearance. The result was natural and beautiful. You can see Vickie's eyelift story here.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

STEP 1: The surgeon makes a curved incision across the natural crease of the skin and carefully removes excess fat and skin.
STEP 2: The incision is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eye. The result is brighter, more "awake" eyes which look younger and fresher.
Your Consultation
Your free consultation is a good opportunity to discuss eye lid surgery with an experienced surgeon.
Your surgeon will look at your medical history, listen very carefully to your requirements and give you honest, expert advice on whether eye lid surgery is the right choice for you.
Depending on your requirements, you may be advised to other procedures instead of or as well as upper blepharoplasty, for example:
- Eye bag removal (lower blepharoplasty). It is a popular choice to have both upper and lower eye area rejuveanted at the same time.
- Face lift
- Neck lift
- Brow lift
Your Surgeon will advise on the benefits as well as the risks of undertaking facial surgery and will outline what to expect at the hospital, explaining the procedure in detail and the recovery/healing process as well as aftercare.
We take the consultation stage very seriously at The Hospital Group and provide this service free and without any further obligation, so that you can be fully informed about your cosmetic surgery options.
Post-Operative Healing
Eveyone is different, but you should prepare for some early pain, discomfort, swelling and bruising after surgery.
Your surgeon will advise on the most appropriate aftercare during the first few weeks of healing. The initial bruising should last around 7 days so most people plan to have some time at home before returning to work or normal activities.
The scar from surgery will take time to fade fully - up to a year in some cases. However, it will normally be hidden in the natural crease above the eye, so after the initial bruising has gone, it should be undetectable to anyone but you.
We recommend Tamanu Balm to help with the healing of scars after surgery. This exclusive product is an intense moisturiser, containing a variety of exclusively selected natural ingredients to promote the formation of new tissue and the growth of healthy skin. This product is available in our clinics or from the online shop.
During your medical consultation your surgeon will point out that the skin will continue to age even after surgery. However, non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment such as Anti Wrinkle treatment can be combined with eyelid surgery to maintain an improved overall result.
