Liposculpture - Liposuction
Liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure that is used to remove stubborn or excess fat areas from the body or the face. The procedure is suitable for both women and men.
Liposculpture is technically a similar procedure, but the emphasis is on the aesthetic result. Our expert surgeons spend longer in surgery to ensure that they produce a smooth, contoured profile.
Popular areas for liposculpture include:
- Tummy / abdomen
- Thighs
- Buttocks / bottom
- Chin
- Male breasts
The procedure can be used on almost any area of the face or body, such as:
- Chest
- Arms
- Back
- Knees
- Calves
- Ankles
Patient Stories
- Kerri Parker (pictured above) is a professional model, who chose to have liposculpture on her abdo, back, flanks and thighs. There was not a large amount of fat, but the use of liposculpture was very effective to refine and contour her shape for those bikini shots
- Colette ate well and exercised regularly, but could not shift that stubborn area of fat on her tummy. She chose liposuction and shares her story with video interview at The Hospital Group just after surgery.

The Liposculpture Procedure
Liposuction is normally carried out under general anaesthetic in our well-equipped cosmetic surgery hospitals. The surgeon makes small incisions in the chosen area, inserts a cannula (special tube) and extracts the excess fat deposits, concentrating on delivery a good aesthetic result - smooth and nicely contoured.

Post-Operative Garments
Post-op garments are designed to apply pressure to the area. This helps get the best final result by encouraging the shaping of your new contour. It also reduces swelling and bleeding, so aids your recovery. Garments such as this are normally worn for the first 2 weeks.
These are available from our clinics or in our online shop.
Do ask your surgeon or Patient Care Coordinator, as different procedures and surgeons will have different advice.
Healing and Scars
After liposculpture, a small scar of about a quarter of an inch will be left, placed wherever possible in a body fold or crease. It will take time to fade fully - up to a year in some cases. The scar is usually red and raised for the first month or two after your operation.
The Hospital Group has developed exclusive Tamanu Balm to help with the healing of scars after surgery. Tamanu Balm is an intensive moisturiser with exclusively selected natural ingredients to promote the formation of new tissue, therefore accelerating wound healing and the growth of healthy skin. This product is available in our clinics or from the online shop.
It is designed for use after the initial wound has healed over and should not be used on any open wounds.
