Sharon’s "Slimmer of the Year" Story
Sharon Isaac lost 9 stone in a year and was chosen from thousands of patients to become The Hospital Group's Slimmer of the Year.

Her original weight was 19 stone, but her health suffered as a consequence. She had dangerously high cholesterol levels and was unable to conceive a much longed-for baby.
Like most of our patients, she had tried every form of dieting without success. However, she knew it was time for drastic action when she suffered a suspected stroke. 2 paramedics were unable to lift the stretcher she was on.
Sharon researched her options and decided to have the Gastric Band fitted. A year later, Sharon has lost more than 9 stone. She is healthy and active and in control of her eating habits.
Sharon said, “Surgery is not for everyone, but for many it is a life-line. I was literally a time bomb - a heart attack waiting to happen. Weight loss is hard but you have to take control. Surgery has given me back my life. Before my gastric band surgery I was too embarrassed to see old friends, I wouldn’t go on holiday and avoided swimming pools at all costs!. Before surgery I could only shop at Evans – now the world is my oyster. I can shop anywhere, and surgery has given me a renewed interest in clothes”.
Pregnancy - Thanks to the Gastric Band!
The great news for Sharon is also that she's been able to conceive and is pregnant thanks to the band. Having a gastric band while pregnant is not a problem. To ensure that the growing baby has sufficient nutrition, the gastric band is loosened. After childbirth and breastfeeding, the band is restricted again to reduce calorie intake and ensure weight loss.
